Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Rogue Chipotle Ale

Rogue Chipotle Ale
Very intriguing beer. Has distinct Rauchbier smokiness in scent and sip. Features classic amber color and genuine spiciness due to jalapeno pepper notes. Still, once you get past smokiness, flavors aren't particularly special. Type of beer you must have once, but might not want to down two of them.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Rogue John John Dead Guy Ale

Rogue John John Dead Guy Ale
Since I've never been a fan of hard liquor, I was shocked when I took a pull of this version of Rogue's Dead Guy and bourbon taste was noticeably present. Aged in whiskey barrels, it made me wonder if I'd be able to stomach the real thing. Complex sipping beer.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Rogue Yellow Snow IPA

Rogue Yellow Snow IPA
For an IPA from one of America's most renowned breweries, this was a disappointment. Falls short in hops department. Almost resembles a pilsner. If you think of it that way, it is enjoyable enough. But that wasn't the stated goal. And it sure wasn't worth the $13 I paid.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Rogue Santa's Private Reserve Ale

Rogue Santa's Private Reserve Ale
Little disappointed by this one. Maybe due to high regard I have for the Oregon brewer's concoctions. First swig left me feeling off-put. Features spruce as an ingredient, but they didn't make the odd spice work in the manner that Yards Tavern Spruce did. Not easy to drink multiple.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Rogue John John Ale

Rogue John John Ale
A very interesting beer. The pale ale features the sprucey taste and scent of Yards' distinctive Tavern Spruce with the flowery trace that defines Philadelphia Brewing Company's Fleur de Lehigh. However, it falls somewhere beneath both of those beers. Flavors simply aren't as vibrant, nor the scent as immediately impactful.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Lagunitas IPA

Lagunitas IPA
The best brewery currently churning out beer in the states? Stone could make a decent case. Rogue has myriad wonderful selections. Yards holds it down from a Philly perspective. North Coast? Avery? Great Lakes? All deserving dark horse candidates. I'd have to go with Lagunitas though. Their IPA? Simply majestic.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Rogue Dead Guy Ale

Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Phillies Beer #3: This Maibock from the Newport, Oregon brewery features a strong bouquet and a big-beer wallop. Has a wonderful carrot-colored shade and one of the best bottle labels in the game. Let's face it: Can't concentrate. Need to get focused on this mutha-flippin' Phils game.

The Rare Night Out: Audubon Ale House

Ok, so it wasn't really a "night" per se, but still, my mother-in-law was nice enough to stop in for 90 minutes and babysit. This gave us ample time to head to the Audubon Ale House for dinner and a couple of drinks. I don't know if I would give this establishment "hidden jewel" status, but I do think that it is an underrated choice when looking to spend some quality time in the local bar. So with time of the essence we chose to hit it up in lieu of other choices, The Saloon and the always reliable Chap's.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Morimoto Hazelnut Signature Ale (Rogue)

Morimoto Hazelnut Signature Ale (Rogue)
Also known as Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar, this 22-ouncer was split by the wife and myself. Definitely a distinctive taste, sort of like a Newcastle on steroids. Although I will say that it was a little better at Morimoto when paired with two other great beers and some impeccable sushi.
