Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Wolaver's India Pale Ale

Wolaver's India Pale Ale
Otter Creek Brewing Company got me. Never buy two sixpacks by same company at one time. Didn't realize they made Wolaver's beers until I got to car and looked at beer caps. The beer? Hops understated. Accompanying flavors lacking. Scent vague. Musty and indistinct. Not good enough.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Otter Creek Brewing Company Summer

Otter Creek Summer
Starting with the good stuff: Has very pleasing golden color!!! But...not much of a scent. Thin head. Can pick up on some wheat; otherwise it's low on flavor. Little bit of citrus maybe, but it's really slight. Very simple beer. Passable in a pinch. Not memorable.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Flying Dog Woody Creek Belgian Style White

Flying Dog Woody Creek Belgian Style White
After having a bust of a wheat in Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen, it is nice to have a white that makes you believe in the lighter ales. This beer by the quietly great Maryland brewery is a gorgeous, effervescent clear color. The orange notes and Belgian spices combine perfectly. Total class.

Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen
Not good. There's slight lemony aroma. Cloudy color is unattractive. Flavor doesn't pops. Hints of citrus and pepper, but really bland. In attempt to get flavor out, I did a little wine mouth-swish thing. Almost choked. Heard Portland beer was on the come, but this one was wack.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Ithaca Pale Ale

Ithaca Pale Ale
First thing that scared me about this beer was the pour. The head had disappeared from the top of the glass about 3.2 seconds after the thing was full. Very average beer. Malty scent. Little bit of orange, little bit of caramel. Copper color. Nothing really offensive, nothing particularly wonderful.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Goose Island India Pale Ale

Goose Island India Pale Ale
This one ranks as a major improvement over the previously sampled Honker's Ale. It has a powerful citrus scent, a pleasant color that falls between golden and amber, and a spikey hop flavor that really pops. Also features a smooth texture that makes it go down easy as session beer.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale

Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale
First thing about this beer: coloring is brown for a "pale" ale. Then the aroma. Nails you right in the nostrils as you lift to lips. The sip? Cracks you with IPA-level hops yet goes down nice and smooth. Elite beer. Underrated brewery. Bonus: Wonderfully quirky bottle art.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Williamsburg Alewerks Wheat Ale

Williamsburg Alewerks Wheat Ale
Disappointing offering from brewery that had produced two decent hoppy bottles previous. Not much flavor. What little it has sticks around in form of a nasty aftertaste. Cloudy yellow color. Nonexistent scent. Plenty of wheat flavor (if you can call it that), but nothing there to serve as complement. Avoid.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Stoudts American Pale Ale

Stoudts American Pale Ale
Don't know what to say about this beer. On one hand, it's delicious, continuing a 2012 streak that's seen me experience numerous winners by the Adamstown brewery. Then again, the last four times I've tried to write this post, my computer's crashed. Good beer, Stoudts. But I'm moving on.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Leffe Blonde

Leffe Blonde
Like a trip in a time machine: Was one of my first steps toward craft beer many years back. Pours thick, creamy head and features a spicy yet slightly stale aroma. Belgian notes and citrus are strong. Was prepared to write off due to palette expansion, but it holds up.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Clown Shoes Miracle India Pale Ale

Clown Shoes Miracle India Pale Ale
On label of this beer by the Ipswich, MA, brewery, it's detailed how percentage of item's profits goes to Clown Shoes Minor Miracle Fund, which benefits people in ways that aren't described. Makes it hard to say the beer is decent but pedestrian. Heavily hopped, but lacks additional flavor. Sorry!

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Full Sail Pale Ale

Full Sail Pale Ale
Hung out with buds Thursday. Night got foggy. Remember everything though. Ate delicious sausage-and-onions pizza by brother's girlfriend. Spun both Big Country and Wu-Tang. Danced while holding dumbbells (extra cardio). Drank this Oregon-based beer. Drove home. Was a little bored by beer. Rest was great!!!

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Fegley's Brew Works Monkey Wrench Saison Ale

Fegley's Brew Works Monkey Wrench Saison Ale
When I first picked up this 22-ouncer, looked at bottom. Filmy substance floating around worried me. Was either packed with flavor or it was skunked. Almost went with Victory Hop Wallop. Leapt faithfully. Beautiful, hazy golden color. Splendid, lemony spicing. Thinner than highest-echelon Belgians, but contains sizeable pop.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Full Pint Brewing Company Chinookie IPA

Full Pint Chinookie IPA
Wasn't nice to buy Pittsburgh beer while Flyers take on Penguins in NHL playoffs. Oh well. Never liked hockey. Don't like sports with players whose names I can't pronounce. I was paid back though. Stale, musty smell. Dark, murky color. Hops subtle and overwhelmed by harsh flavor. Aftertaste. Poor experience.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Harp Lager

Harp Lager
Leaving brother's house on Easter, I was struck with fear! "What if I ran outta beer before epic night of Justified (OnDemand), Game of Thrones, and Mad Men?" Grabbed Harp Lager out of fridge for later consumption. Typical, bland big-box lager. (You can close your mouth now, Gift Horse!)

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Magic Hat Brewing Company Circus Boy Hefeweizen

Magic Hat Circus Boy Hefeweizen
The other night, told Fegley Brew Works Twitter team that we'd buy their triple IPA Hop'solutely as thanks for following us. In beer store the other day, I see it. It was $12.99. This one? $8.99. Went cheap. Got what I paid for. Muddy color. Vaguely citrusy taste. Not good.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale

Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale
As I write, I'm listening to the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street. Are there any beers that would taste bad while taking in such gritty, dirty, devilish audio? I taste hops. I taste oranges. I taste smoky malt. Just spent 30 seconds inhaling it. Another treasure from the CA.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Fegley's Brew Works Always Sunny Pale Ale

Fegley's Brew Works Always Sunny Pale Ale

Fegley's six-pack reads: "Support your local brewery." Pet peeve. No guilt trips! Whether it's beer, arugula, or another product, I'm not supporting companies because we're both Pennsylvania-based. I'll support this beer because of its hoppy aroma, its powerful finish, and a crisp feel that rewards session drinking.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Samuel Adams Dark Depths Baltic IPA

Samuel Adams Dark Depths Baltic IPA
I've always seen Samuel Adams as a large-scale beermaker. But their small-batch series is making me believe in their microbrew bona fides. This pours thick and creamy. There's a coffee kick in the finish, but hops pop in scent and sip. Great IPA/stout combo. Awesome label too!

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Bell's Brewery Oarsman Ale

Bell's Oarsman Ale
Not sure if the taste of this beer by the Kalamazoo, Michigan brewers rises to the exceptional, but it gets points for being somewhat unique. Pouring in a color that is almost white, it features a flavor that falls somewhere between acidic grapefruit-like citrus and rustic sourness.
