Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Williamsburg Alewerks Tavern Ale

Williamsburg Alewerks Tavern Ale
When I first sipped this one, was expecting something light. Lageresque. Instead, it's smoky, malty, and extremely porterish (second really cool fake word made up for this post!). While part of enjoyment came from low expectations, definitely enjoyed the complexity and depth. Strong, but not overbearing!

Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Bell's Cherry Stout

A rich yet sweet stout with a tart, almost sour cherry finish. Quite a unique flavor, mixing cherry, chocolate, vanilla, and the malts of a porter. A tad light for a stout. While I enjoyed it, I probably wouldn't order more than one in a single night.

Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Dark Horse Reserve Special Black Bier Ale

Looks like a stout or porter, but the taste is a bit lighter. Could definitely knock back more than one without that "full" feeling that I get from multiple stouts. Smoky malt flavor with a slightly sweet coffee finish. Hoppier than I expected. An excellent winter beer.

Booze...in 50 Words or Less: Breckenridge Brewery Vanilla Porter

A sweet vanilla flavor, not to overpowering, and a low carbonation really make this porter go down smoothly. It really hit the spot after my soon to be wife tried to burn my mouth with some Trader Joe's Habanero Hot Sauce on my pizza.

King of the Case: Smuttynose Brewing Company

Wherein I will buy a variety case and decide what the best beer in it is.

Smuttynose IPA
A crisp, hoppy offering with a fine finish. One of the best IPAs outside of the West Coast elite.

Robust Porter
I'm not a huge fan of porter beers, so I was a little disappointed when I found out that this was the "Brewer's Selection" on this particular occasion (no summer beer?). But the thing was pretty smooth despite its distinctive coffee flavor. I don't drink coffee and would rather my beer did not taste like it.
