Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Southern Tier Pumking

http://www.southerntierbrewing.com/beers.html

Definitely not a king ... or queen ... or even jack of pumpkin beers. My allergies are terrible right now, so the extremely strong smell of pumpkin and spices emanating from the beer had me worried before I even took a sip. An overwhelming taste of sugary sweet pumpkin pie. If you love dessert and don't like the taste of beer, this is probably the beer for you.

Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Wolaver's Organic Pumpkin Ale

Not one of the better pumpkin brews of the season, but also not one of the worst. The first sip is a tad bitter and followed by an underwhelming aftertaste comprised of a bit of spice and a tinier bit of pumpkin. There's just not really enough going on here to make me want to get this beer again.

Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale

Looks like a pumpkin beer. Smells only somewhat like a pumpkin beer. Tastes nothing like a pumpkin beer. And it's not just light on pumpkin flavor, but light on any flavor. Even the aftertaste seems watered down. A real dud.

Booze ... In 50 Words or Less: River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern

This is THE pumpkin beer for any Belgian lovers out there. Nose and taste are only slightly pumpkiny compared to Weyerbacher or Smuttynose. At 9% ABV, I can definitely only handle one of these in a sitting. Reddish copper, slightly cloudy, quite smooth and very warming.

Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale

http://smuttynose.com/beers/seasonal_beers/smuttynose_pumpkin_ale.html

Major head, hubby says it looks like a whipped cream-topped beer. Smells very much like pumpkin, tastes not so much. Overall flavor is more spicy than it is sweet. Hoppier than most pumpkin ales.  Probably a good fall choice for the IPA lover.

Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

http://weyerbacher.com/blog/2010/02/imperial-pumpkin-ale/

Now this is what a pumpkin beer should taste like. Strong golden brown ale with a spicy pumpkin flavor that's not too sweet and not too overwhelming. Cinnamon, nutmeg and a few other spices, but luckily no sweet 'n low.

Booze ... in 50 Words or Less: Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale

http://www.shipyard.com/

Pumpkin beers are always hit or miss. This one's a miss. Too light for a fall beer. Not much flavor to report at all ... other than a strange aftertaste combo of sweet 'n low and nutmeg.
