On to the pie. The dough is the perfectly soft consistency for the sweet (and ample) sauce. Sprinkled with a bit of fresh parm on top, and that is it: simple, yet delicious goodness. Large and affordable, it's a perfect addition to any party menu. We always order in advance to be sure they don't run out, but you could also get there early in the morning to secure your pie.
In the past, we had typically ordered a stromboli or two (spinach, broccoli, ham and cheese, etc.), but we were recently introduced to their calzones, stuffed - and I mean stuffed - with pepperoni, sauce and cheese. So that's our new jam.
And what is the perfect accompaniment to tomato pie? Alcohol-infused whipped cream of course. PA liquor stores don't sell it, but the in-laws were a hit when they brought it to the party from Jersey. Is it tasty? Not really. It burns a bit on the way down and in the words of my mom, tastes a bit like antiseptic. But for a bunch of 30-somethings on a Sunday night, it was a good time.
